The History

Belfast Harlequins Men’s Rugby Team – a story woven through time, sweat, and perseverance. Born in 1999 through the merger of Collegians, North of Ireland Cricket Club, and North of Ireland Football Club, we are built upon the legacy of three distinguished clubs in Ireland.

Our home ground at Deramore Park became a shared space for sports enthusiasts. Renowned for being one of the earliest international rugby venues, it was repurposed and upgraded through the proceeds from the sale of the famed Ormeau grounds.

The dawn of a new era arrived on November 18, 1999, as Belfast Harlequins came into existence. By June 2002, we unveiled our new clubhouse at Deramore, marking our commitment to nurturing sportsmanship and talent. Since then, we’ve witnessed victories, learned from defeats, and celebrated countless memorable moments.

Our journey has been rich with success, and we carry the pride of hosting several sports in the Special Olympics Ireland Games in 2006 and being a venue for the 2007 Under 19 Rugby World Championship.
